Ratings Formulation

The Feedback Conversion process produces quantitative data that allows us to formulate ratings for any group of related exam records.  In order to facilitate statistical data analysis, QMS formulates QAISys® Ratings for logical groups of exams and presents this statistical data in its dashboard and in its reports.

To formulate a QAISys® Rating (QR), we compare the number of Completed Exam (CE) records with the sum of Dissatisfaction Values within a related group of exams.

The components of the QR include:

  1. The number of Completed Exams (CE) within the group
  2. The Dissatisfaction Value assigned to each unsatisfactory exam within the group
  3. The Dissatisfaction Factor (DF), which is the sum of the Dissatisfaction Values generated within the specified group of exams
  4. The Unsatisfactory Rate (UR), which is the ratio of the Dissatisfaction Factor to Completed Exams expressed as a percentage
  5. The Satisfactory Rate (SR), which equals the inverse of the Unsatisfactory Rate

The QR formula is expressed as follows:

Building the QR begins with assigning Dissatisfaction Values to unsatisfactory exams for each type of quality detraction identified.  See Feedback Conversion.

Next we isolate a group of exams based upon specified exam characteristics and formulate the sum of the Dissatisfaction Values within the group of exams.  We call this sum the Dissatisfaction Factor (DF).[*]

Once the Dissatisfaction Factor (DF) and Completed Exams (CE) are tabulated, we calculate the Satisfactory Rate (SR) with the formula 1 – DF/CE.[†]

In formulating a QAISys® Rating (QR) we apply an exponential component to the Satisfactory Rate (SR).[‡]

The process of querying specific groups of exams, formulating QRs, and making logical comparisons of the statistics to find relationships and trends forms the basis for a powerful mode of discovery and communication.  The Data Tracking & Analysis page discusses how QMS aptly facilitates this process.

[*] Although the primary purpose of the DF is to function within the QR formula, we present it in many of the reports and charts within QMS because it provides useful management information.

[†] We often present the SR as a percent in our reports and charts as a means of providing a base of perspective to managers regarding the rate and severity of quality detraction occurrence.

[‡] The QMS dashboard allows managers to modify sensitivity of QRs by adjusting the exponential component.  This can help to more readily identify trends and to better differentiate between performances.  For more information see Discussions>Exponential Component in QR Formulation.
